I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12, and over the years I’ve experienced a wide range of teaching styles — from my early childhood lessons to studying with world-class guitarists at Berklee College of Music. Today, with YouTube and thousands of online tutorials, it’s easier than ever to learn a song or concept in just a few hours. But what those videos can’t give you is the personal guidance, feedback, and mentorship that comes from working directly with a teacher who understands your goals and can help you reach them efficiently.

There’s no single “right” way to teach guitar, but in my seven years as an instructor I’ve built my methods around three core principles: patience, practice, and purpose. I meet students where they are, adapting lessons to their pace and musical interests, while ensuring that each step has a clear goal and builds toward lasting skills. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to refine your technique, my aim is to make your learning experience both enjoyable and deeply rewarding.

While each student’s lesson is always tailored to their individual goals and musical interests, students can expect some of these concepts to be included in their lessons:

Beginner Students

Those who are brand new to guitar, or have minimal experience with the instrument.

Curriculum:

• Start off with guitar fundamentals and basic music theory concepts

• Learn proper hand position and picking technique

• Go over essential open chords and simple scale patterns

• Work through an eclectic catalogue of easy and fun guitar songs ranging from Jazz, Blues, Pop, and Rock based songs/artists

Intermediate Students

Those who have 2-4 years experience with guitar and have a solid understanding of basic techniques and theory concepts.

Curriculum:

• Deep dive into intricate guitar techniques and musical works, as well as a more complex understanding of music theory and ear training

• Introduction to four-part chords and modal scales

• Basic understanding of guitar improvisation or ‘jamming’ using diverse scale patterns

• Focused study on specified genres of guitar music and artists tailored to the student’s interests and musical tastes.

Advanced Students

Those who already have a robust understanding of intermediate guitar techniques and music theory concepts.

Curriculum:

• ‘Conservatory level’ guitar theory and music theory concepts explored with advanced ear training

• Overview of advanced improvisation techniques and practices

• Focused study on a specific guitar style, tailored to students’ goals and ambitions
